Words of Wisdom

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.'

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her,'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.

Life Is a Gift
Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who died too early on this earth.
Before you complain about your children - Think of someone who desires children but they're barren.
Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep - Think of the people who are living in the streets.
Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another - Remember that not one of us is without sin.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around.

The road to Excellence!!!

A gentleman once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God. Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby.

Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same idol?" "No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage."

The gentleman examined the idol and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked. "There is a scratch on the nose of the idol." said the sculptor, still busy with his work.

"Where are you going to install the idol?" The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high. "If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked.

The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "I know it and God knows it!"

The desire to excel should be exclusive of the fact whether someone appreciates it or not. "Excellence" is a drive from inside, not outside. Excel at a task today - not necessarily for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction ! !

ACCIDENTS!!!!

With the accidental death cases going on the rise on the Express way, who do we blame for the same?

Do we blame the drivers for falling asleep in between due to continous driving hours or late night driving? If this is the case, should the agencies have a system in place (like 2 drivers per car for long distance or intervals to be taken in the night)

Is it a result of the roads not having speed breakers in between?

Could we work towards solving this problem. Can someone please come out with a solution to decrease the cases of accidental deaths while travelling.

It is really sad and upsetting to hear off so many lives being lost week on week.

Post Increment (Lessons to Learn

Have you heard the story of "The Washer man and the Foolish Donkey"?

To refresh your memory, and for the benefit of those who have not grown up listening to this moral story, it goes like this…

There was once a washer man who had a donkey and a dog. One night when the whole world was sleeping, a thief broke into the house, the washer man was fast asleep but the donkey and the dog were awake. The dog decided not to bark since the master did not take good care of him and wanted to teach him a lesson. The donkey got worried and said to the dog that if he doesn't bark, the donkey will have to do something himself. The dog did not change his mind and the donkey started braying loudly. Hearing the donkey bray, the thief ran away, the master woke up and started beating the donkey for braying in the middle of the night for no reason.

Moral of the story "One must not engage in duties other than his own"

Now take a new look at the same story…

The washer man was a well educated man from a premier management institute. He had the fundas of looking at the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. He was convinced that there must be some reason for the donkey to bray in the night. He walked outside a little and did some fact finding, applied a bottom up approach, figured out from the ground realities that there was a thief who broke in and the donkey only wanted to alert him about it. Looking at the donkey's extra initiative and going beyond the call of the duty, he rewarded him with lot of hay and other perks and became his favorite pet. The dog's life didn't change much, except that now the donkey was more motivated in doing the dogs duties as well. In the annual appraisal the dog managed a " meets requirement" Soon the dog realized that the donkey is taking care of his duties and he can enjoy his life sleeping and lazing around. The donkey was rated as "star performer". The donkey had to live up to his already high performance standards. Soon he was over burdened with work and always under pressure and now is looking for a job rotation…

If you have worked in a corporate environment, I am sure you have guessed the characters of the new story...

U, Me aur Hum

Quite an unexpected film. The promos did not prepare me, for what the film was all about.

The film maker tried to make Kajol look more scary than anything else.

A once watch, once enjoy film..

Advice:
Listen carefully to the jokes.. Or you will miss the punch lines.

A new beginning

Being on medical leave, has had a lot of benefits. It has not only given me a new lease on life, but has also made me understand where my life was headed.

The past one year has been a troubled time for me, and I have let the troubles win the better part of me. Due to which I stopped doing all things that I enjoy most and spent all my free time either reading books or watching TV. Shied away from the world and hid at home.. This was what I had done.

Its now time to change. Come April, I have joined the Summer camp of Terence Lewis being held at Malad and will be learning Salsa. Will also be performing live Mid May. Oh! By the way, I am looking for a dance partner? Anyone interested???? Let me know asap.

Come May and I might gift myself a long awaited... Will let you know, once it is done.

Come June and I will be a Sunday School Catechist once again. This will obviously be for the full academic year. So all my spare time from then on, will go in preparing children to accept Christ in their lives.

These are my plans so far.

But Yes, I know all of you are waiting for the Big Day in my life. That too will be confirmed to you shortly.

So, here's wishing me all the very best, the best life can offer at the start of this financial year.

Cheers!

Weight Loss....

How does one handle this situation?

Gone on a healthy diet, but then have to undergo an unavoidable surgery.

Hmmmm..

My diet has changed slightly due to adding milk to my list of intakes. No exercise... grrr. Sleep and rest is a must.

Gained weight??? Of course, I have.. What a silly question..
The entire 6 kgs lost in a month, has been gained by me.

But Yipee good times ahead... Boss going on leave, stress increases.. And stress leads to weight loss

Very soon will try my luck once again at my cooking skills. And cooking my own food, means eating less. After all, who likes to eat their own food??? Bolo Bolo, tell tell

Will Dolly lose weight once again??? Will She???

Read this post a month from now.

Taare Zameen Par

While the promos were aired of this film, I had very clearly stated that I would not watch the same as Aamir Khan has too much attitude and he thinks that all his films are the best, the best can bring.

And then one fine day, I went to my friends house and decided to pick a couple of dvds to watch and I took along Taare Zameen Par.

I was not prepared for such an amazingly prepared film. Trust me, this is one film I had no critical comments to add.

The acting of all in the film seems so real - the mother and father played their roles amazingly well. Ishaan - was wow. A movie I saw 3 times that weekend.

Aamir, for a change, the boy Ishaan outdid even your performance.

The songs are great too, so great that I have added all the songs onto my cell phone. I listen to these songs when I am upset or sad with life.

Aamir, thank you for making such a film. The film relates to all of us in life, as we have had to face this kind of situation when we were young. Parents not being able to understand our slow learning processes. But like the film does at the end, we all outgrow this stage through love and patience.

Both me and my fiance were able to relate to this film - me for my slow learning and Dan with the boarding school.

Aamir, continue making such social awakening films and trust me, I will watch all of those films as and when they release.

Quote for the week ahead!!!

The most important ingredient in the formula of Success
is
Knowing how to get along with People.

My Big Day Out

Last week for mass, Fr. Salu had asked a very simple question, for which I had no answer.
He said Christ died for us, for our sins, so that we could live.
Have we as persons, made an impact in anyone's life till date?

I thought about this question and honestly I know of a lot of people who have made a significant difference in my life, but as far as I recollect, I have not done anything for anyone as yet.

As mass went on, there were the notices read during which time, I became aware of a demolition drive to build an airport and thus destroy a Catholic Church. Also a drive to wipe out the houses in Gorai and Manori for an entertainment park. I knew I had got my answer during this very mass. There were going to be rallies and I could stand up and raise my voice or just be a silent observer.

But, when I reached home, I came to know that there was to be a visit to the aged home on the same day as the rally. An aged home in Malad? That's strange. I never even knew there was such a home in my own area.

And so today, I reached the aged home. Its called Shanti Niwas in Kurar Village, Malad (E). Nope, I live in the West and I dont know how to go there on my own, so if you read my blog and believe that you should visit the home, the no is 022 2842 5209 and you could speak with Brother Julianne.

As of now, there are only 2 ladies and the remaining are gents, 2 small girls as well. They are looking for couples who would like to adopt the girls. The girls are aged between 8 - 11. A total of 17 of them. There is also a sick patient who is looked after in isolation, as he is suffering from TB.

The way for the men / ladies to make money and to have some thing to do as a pass time, is to put the hair clips known as boppins (hope I got the spelling right) onto the paper and then give it back to the supplier. These people get paid peanuts. 1st they were being paid 25 p, now it is 50 p for a day's work. Ridiculous, right! That's what I said. But who can they argue with?

I know I have not made a difference today, but at least I can pass the word around to you to help these people in whatever small way you can, as they live on what we give them.

Its a clean place, a little out of the way, but something you would not like to miss out on. One day, we wil be senior citizens too. Will our children send us away?

Belated Valentine Wishes from me to you

Valentine.... the day of love.. and of feeling loved.

Hope you had a great day with your loved ones....

The Bus Driver ...

Several years ago, a new preacher moved to Houston, Texas. Some weeks after he arrived, he had an occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change.

As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, 'You'd better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it.' Then he thought, 'Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet.'

When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, 'Here, you gave me too much change.' The driver with a smile replied, 'Aren't you the new preacher in town? I have been thinking a lot lately about going somewhere to worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. I'll see you at church on Sunday'

When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, held on, and said, 'Oh God, I almost sold your Son for a quarter.'

Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read. This is a really scary example of how much people watch us as Christians and will put us to the test! Always be on guard and remember (as I try to remember) that you carry the name of Christ on your shoulders when you call yourself 'Christian.'

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Cherokee Indian youth rite

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sunshine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night, he is a MAN. He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!

Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We, too, are never alone. Even when we don't know it, our Heavenly Father is watching over us, sitting on the stump beside us.

When trouble comes, all we have to do is reach out to Him.

How confident are you?

A businessman was deep in debt and could see no way out. Creditors were closing in on him. Suppliers were demanding payment. He sat on the park bench, head in hands, wondering if anything could save his company from bankruptcy.

Suddenly an old man appeared before him. "I can see that something is troubling you," he said.

After listening to the businessman's woes, the old man said, "I believe I can help you." He asked the man his name, wrote out a check, and pushed it into his hand saying, "Take this money. Meet me here exactly one year from today, and you can pay me back at that time."

Then he turned and disappeared as quickly as he had come. The businessman saw in his hand a check for $500,000, signed by John D.Rockefeller, then one of the richest men in the world!

"I can erase my money worries in an instant!" he realized. But instead, he decided to put the uncashed check in his safe. Just knowing it was there might give him the strength to work out a way to save his business, he thought.

With renewed optimism, he negotiated better deals and extended terms of payment. He closed several big sales. Within a few months, he was out of debt and making money once again.

Exactly one year later, he returned to the park with the uncashed check. At the agreed-upon time, the old man appeared. But just as the businessman was about to hand back the check and share his success story, a nurse came running up and grabbed the old man.

"I'm so glad I caught him!" she cried. "I hope he hasn't been bothering you. He's always escaping from the rest home and telling people he's John D. Rockefeller. " And she led the old man away by the arm.

The astonished businessman just stood there, stunned. All year long he'd been wheeling and dealing, buying and selling, convinced he had half a million dollars behind him.

Suddenly, he realized that it wasn't the money, real or imagined, that had turned his life around. It was his newfound self-confidence that gave him the power to achieve anything he went after

Love v/s Marriage

A student asks a teacher, "What is love?"

The teacher said, "in order to answer your question, go to the wheat field and choose the biggest wheat and come back. But the rule is: you can go through them only once and cannot turn back to pick."
The student went to the field, go thru first row, he saw one big wheat, but he wonders....may be there is a bigger one later. Then he saw another bigger one... but may be there is an even bigger one waiting for him.
Later, when he finished more than half of the wheat field, he start to realize that the wheat is not as big as the previous one he saw, he know he has missed the biggest one, and he regretted.
So, he ended up went back to the teacher with empty hand.
The teacher told him, "...this is love... you keep looking for a better one, but when later you realize, you have already miss the person.... "

*"What is marriage then?" the student asked.

The teacher said, "in order to answer your question, go to the corn field and choose the biggest corn and come back.

But the rule is: you can go through them only once and cannot turn back to pick."

The student went to the corn field, this time he is careful not to repeat the previous mistake, when he reach the middle of the field, he has picked one medium corn that he feel satisfy, and come back to the teacher.
The teacher told him, "this time you bring back a corn.... you look for one that is just nice, and you have faith and believe this is the best one you get.... this is marriage."*
