Faith Fiesta 2007!!!

Attached below is a write up that appeared on the Mid day Metro

The Original write up reads as follows:

Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Orlem Malad (W) had its 1st ever “FAITH FIESTA” organized by the Sunday Joy Club (Sunday School) children. The Fete opened on 9th March and continued till 11th March.

I asked Father Nigel Barret – the Sunday Joy Club (SJC) Director on How he came out with the idea of “Faith Fiesta” and Why? He replied “I want to celebrate our faith in a joyful way. I am not ashamed to be Christian and I choose to follow Jesus. I want children to celebrate their faith as well as give them a sense of social responsibility. So I had come up with the concept that would celebrate our faith and raise funds for a social cause. This is how I got the idea of an exhibition and fair that would bring them to the forefront and raise funds for a good cause.

All the expenses for the fete have been generated through the sponsorship of Kotak Mutual Fund, Len and Bon Estate Consultants, Studio 10 and Citizen Co-operative Bank, Malad. The amount collected from the fete will be given to Mukta Jeevan Aid Hospic (Assangaon), Jankalyan Trust (Mahad Missions), Seva Dhan drug rehabilitation Centre, Nihar Special School and Prayatna Community Centre. The five organizations will get Rs.25,000/- each.

Ralph, the SJC Co-ordinator said, “When Fr. Nigel proposed this idea of a Faith Fair, it sounded great and exciting. I realized the amount of hard work, dedication and commitment it entailed, but I knew our Catechists would pull it off and they did a wonderful job especially the Décor team led by Sr. Suranjana and Moses. The Co-ordinators of the different standards along with their Catechists (most of them working members and college students) worked overtime to ensure that their stage performances were good and well presented.
We at SJC have imparted faith to our children through the various social activities carried out during the year eg beach cleaning at Madh Island or campaign for signals at important road junctions and finally the Faith fair where we have taught our children the importance and values of charity and sharing.

SJC comprises of Standards I-IX. Each Std had to man 3 stalls: a food stall, a game stall and an income generating stall.

The Food Stalls had foods ranging from mouth watering pani-puri and ragda pattice to yummy sandwiches, Goan sorpetel, ice creams, tang, etc. Some of the food items were generously donated by our ever generous parents. Ms. Savie Minz, a co-ordinator for Std VIII said “The food disappeared within 2 hours of the show beginning and more food had to be ordered”.

The Game Stalls were so dominated by kids, that I could barely see the games being held. The Faith games were mainly based on topics taught to the students during the course of their academic year. There were games with names like Knock Out the Seven Deadly Sins, Keep the Flame Alive, Ring your Virtues, etc. Very entertaining, I would say, because there was too much of a crowd standing and waiting for their chance. And there were great prizes too – their own SJC Mugs, Pens and gifts donated by our Parishioners.

There were also the Income Generating Stalls. All the items sold in each and every stall were made by the students / Catechists. There were items ranging from pearl earrings, bracelets to household items like altar candles, satin flowered bouquets, wall hangings, diyas, hand-made paper bags. The best amongst these was The Last Supper paintings prepared by our future Leonardo da Vinci’s.

There were a few additional stalls like the White Elephant stall, the Raffle Draw stall, Guess the weight of the cake stall, the Tattoo stalls and the Family Recollection stall. The White Elephant stall consisted of items donated by the parishioners like watches, wallets, pens, clothes, dinner sets, etc. Orlem Parishioners are known for their generosity and here was proof again

To add to these, there was an exclusive area for the exhibition. This consisted of projects prepared by the students. As I entered, I felt like I was walking through the stories in the Bible. I entered through a wooden bridge and reached a forest, where I was greeted by none other than Adam and Eve. From there to Noah’s Ark, the Life, Death and Resurrection of Christ and the various sacraments that every Christian goes through. There were posters of all kinds and also powerpoint presentations on the girl child, children living in slum areas, the many faces of poverty, etc etc.

Over and above this, there were stage performances ranging from the Biblical Fashion show to the skits on Creation, the Sister Act and the Sower and the Seed. There were also children Gospel singers and dancers, professionally trained by the Living Waters – the Charismatic Prayer Group in Orlem and our entertainers – the Magician, Clown and the Stilt walker, etc.

All in all, an event can only be called successful if huge crowds gather on all days and help patronize the stalls for a worthy cause. A total of 4000 tickets were purchased. To add to the huge crowds, were the participants, volunteers, Catechists, etc.

In my perspective, Faith Fiesta can definitely be considered the largest event in Mumbai, organized by children not to forget the huge amount of hard work and effort put in by Fr. Nigel and his team.

Health Facts

BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2. Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar Consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6. Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.

7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered, increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

The main causes of liver damage are:
1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.
2. Not urinating in the morning.
3. Too much eating.
4. Skipping breakfast.
5. Consuming too much medication.
6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.
7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.
9. Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to "schedule."

Because:
Evening at 9 - 11pm : is the time for eliminating unnecessary/toxic chemicals (detoxification)from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on health.

Evening at 11pm - 1am: is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 1 - 3am: detoxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 3 - 5am: detoxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.

Morning 5 - 7am: detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 - 9am: absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time. Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick. Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 - 10am rather than no meal at all.

Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4:00 am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood. Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.

Its that time of year again!!

A newly joined trainee in an Agency asks his boss "what is the meaning of appraisal?"

Boss: "Do you know the meaning of resignation?"

Trainee: "Yes I do"

Boss: "So let me make you understand what a appraisal is by comparing it with resignation"

Comparison study: Appraisal and Resignation

Appraisal / Resignation

Point 1
In appraisal meeting they will speak only about your weakness, errors and failures.
In resignation meeting they will speak only about your strengths, past achievements and success.

Point 2
In appraisal you may need to cry and beg for even 10% hike.
In resignation you can easily demand (or get even without asking) more than 50-60% hike.

Point 3
During appraisal, they will deny promotion saying you didn't meet the expectation, you don't have leadership qualities, and you had several drawbacks in our objective/goal.
During resignation, they will say you are the core member of team; you are the vision of the company how can you go, you have to take the project in shoulder and lead your juniors to success.

Point 4
There is 90% chance for not getting any significant incentives after appraisal.
There is 90% chance of getting immediate hike after you put the resignation.

Trainee: "Yes boss enough, now I understood my future. For an appraisal I will have to resign ... !!!
