Dor
A movie based on the lives of two married women living in two different parts of India – one in Himachal Pradesh, the other in Rajasthan – one a Muslim, the other a Hindu
Y do I want to talk about this movie?
Its Different – Not like Maggi Tomato Ketchup, but because this is the truth. This is Reality
Muslim women are never given freedom, but here is Gul, who is totally loved by her in-laws and gives her the power to think, to act. Different, Right?
In Rajasthan, lives Ayesha Takia. She loves her husband very much, but now is totally heart broken. (Unfortunately, there is an accident, he has fallen off his balcony. Could probably have been pushed off by Gul’s husband. They were flat mates and had got into a fight).
The movie is all about Gul wanting to prove her husband is innocent or else she will lose her husband as Saudi’s laws are very very strict.
On the other hand lies Ayesha, who is all by herself, locked in a room with nowhere to go. Her family having lost the only son and the only ways to money, wants to sell her to the man who took their mansion as rent to bear off the costs. A trade, I would call it. This is the way women ill treat women. This too is Reality
Gul, in her hope to win Ayesha’s confidence befriends her, but does not have the courage to bring up their husband’s topic. In the meanwhile, through a friendship that develops between the two, Gul teaches Ayesha the power of standing for what she believes in.
How two girls – two different backgrounds – two different natures – two different stories become the best of friends. More of friendship lies between the two of them, than between their own husbands.
A movie worth watching
