Helpful Hints

1. If silver jewellery gets black apply toothpaste and rub it very well.

2. While whisking egg white, add a pinch of salt for quicker results.

3. Coffee will remain fresh longer in the refrigerator.

4. Get more juice from a citrus fruit by warming it slightly in the oven.

5. Potatoes soaked in salt water for 20 minutes will bake more rapidly.

6. Store curry leaves in silver foil, it will last as much as one month.

7. To prevent boiled potatoes from sticking to the grater, always apply little oil on the grater.

8. For clean storage of radish, remove their tops before putting in the refrigerator.

9. To get rid of the smell of eggs in the cakes, add one tablespoon honey to the cake batter while beating it as it will make the taste better, too!

10. If you want to keep any salad fresh for the evening party, first chill the bowl or tray in which you intend to serve your salad.

11. Use squeezed lemon to get rid of bad smells from fingers after peeling garlic or cleaning fish.

12. To avoid milk from spilling, apply glycerine to the rim of vessel.

13. Before roasting a chicken store in the fridge for 24 hrs for richer flavour.

14. Never use metal containers, foil, or dishes with metal trim in the microwave.

15.To remove the odour from flask or thermos, rinse with curd+pinch of salt.

16. If you wax your ashtrays, ashes won't cling, odours won't linger and they can be wiped cleaned easily with a paper towel or disposable tissue.

17. Substitute of wine in recipes is grape juice.

18. If you keep your candles in the freezer they will last longer and drip less.

19. To prevent sticking of ice trays in the freezer, place a sheet of foil or wax paper under them.

20. If Glasses are stuck together, keep them in the fridge and they will separate easily the next day.

21. Citric fruit rinds will remove grease spots from oven tops.

22. If you want drip-free, long-burning candles, put them in the freezer overnight before burning them.

23. Pour leftover coffee in the soil of your plants. It acts as a good fertiliser.

24. Keep the refrigerator free of odours by placing a tsp. of soda bicarbonate in a corner of the fridge.

25. Oil stain may be removed by rubbing the area with a piece of lime dipped in salt.

26. To prevent bad odour in the refrigerator, dip cotton into vanilla essence and keep in the refrigerator.

27. Keep cutlets coated with breadcrumbs 1 hour in the refrigerator before frying. Take out the cutlets, hold in your palm and press lightly all sides. This way the breadcrumbs will stay put and won't mess up while frying. You will also have a crispy coating.

28. Roll each cucumber in a piece of newspaper while storing in refrigerator - this will remain fresh for a week.

29. Wash stale cabbage with salt, water and few ice cubes. This will regain its freshness and kill germs.

30. Chocolate can be unrelenting. But, you have a chance of removing it if you use a dry grease solvent and some soap and water. Don't rinse it, but wash it right away. Depending on the fabric, you may have to take it to the cleaners.

31. Keep ants at bay. A little lemon juice squirted in the area's they infest should keep them away.

32. Easing sticky locks on doors or cupboards. Rub a soft pencil along the key and insert it into the lock, do this a few times and the lock should be easier to move and the key should slide in and out easier.

33. Dusting Tip: Use paint brushes to dust cracks and hard to reach places in telephones, stereos, etc. A small paint brush is also useful for cleaning difficult to reach areas.

34. To remove grease from inside an oven, put a small pan of ammonia in the oven over night with the door closed. In the morning, remove the pan and the inside grease should wipe off easily
